Why you should visit Oman
Anyone wanting to visit the Middle East should put Oman at the top of their list. The Sultanate of Oman as it is officially known, has an abundance of natural beauty, from the coral reefs of the Daymaniyat Islands to the Wadis, huge valleys which offer freshwater pools to take a dip. Our group tours are Oman have been popular for 2022. We caught up with our tour leader, Said, about why Oman should be on the top of anyone's travel list.
Q: How long have you been a Tour Guide in Oman?
A: I have been working in the tourism industry for 18 years now! I started in 2004 as a driver and then a few years later, I became a tour guide.
Q: What would you say are the 'must-sees' for anyone planning to visit Oman?
A: Many, many places! Wadi Shab is beautiful, it is a great hiking destination, has spectacular caves and offers freshwater pools to swim in. The Livestock Market in Nizwa should also be considered. It is a great way to get an authentic real life experience in Oman. Other sites which should be included are Wahiba Desert Sands which we include on our tour, Al Hoota cave, the turtle reserve found in Ras Al Jins, the village of Wakan, Nakhal warm spring and Falaj Al Khatmayn, one of the ancient irrigation systems found in Oman.
Q: What is the best time to visit Oman?
A: Ideally from the middle of October to February. The summer months are far too hot for tourists to visit.
Q: What should people pack when coming to Oman?
- Good shoes, especially for the hiking opportunities
- Swimming kit - women should wear T-shirt and long shorts rather than bikinis.
- Wadi Shad can often have pebbles in the water so we advise bringing swimming shoes
- Layers - whilst Oman is hot a light jacket should be packed especially if staying near the mountain regions in winter
- Waterproof bag for phone and camera
Q: What is your most memorable experience as a tour guide in Oman?
A: Too many! Every trip meeting different people from all over the world is a memorable experience!
Q: What would you say to people who are thinking about travelling to Oman?
A: Don't think just come. Oman is different with its rich culture, heritage, beautiful places and welcoming people.
You can meet Said and visit Oman on our Oman group tour. This can also be arranged as a private trip.
