How do I find the right adventure to suit me?

We have a great choice of adventures ranging from outdoor activities and wildlife exploration to cultural trips and vibrant festivals. Each itinerary is graded to help you easily see the level of walking or trekking involved, making it simple to choose the adventure that best fits your pace and preferences. You can find these gradings on the Yellow map on each adventure’s page.

If you’d like a bit more guidance, feel free to book a call with our team. We’re here to chat through all the options and help you find the ideal adventure for you!

What fitness level do I need to join the trip?

All of our trips involve a level of general activity so are designed for people who are in good health, enjoy the outdoors, and have a taste for adventure and some level of fitness. As will be clear from our destinations, the climate (and altitude) may be different to that which you are used to, so please take this into consideration when choosing the most suitable holiday.

To help you choose the right adventure for you, we have given each itinerary a grading that relates to the level of Walking / Trekking you will experience during the trip. This grading can be found on the Yellow map on the adventure page of the website.

Please read our Adventure Itinerary & Essential Information for more information and don't hesitate to contact us if you would like to chat through whether you have found a suitable adventure for you.

Do you arrange flights?

While we don’t book flights directly, we are happy to advise on the best routes and options for your destination. Our adventures typically start and end at the destination.

Are airport transfers included?

Group transfers are included on the start and end of the tour dates. Once your booking is confirmed, we will send you a form requesting your flight and travel information so we can arrange your transfer for you.

If you are travelling outside of the tour start and/or end dates and require an airport transfer then we will be more than happy to arrange this for you.

When should I book my flights?

Once you have booked your adventure with us, we will be in touch to confirm your booking, if your adventure is a confirmed departure we will advise you to go ahead and book your travel. If we are waiting for the minimum group size, we will advise you to hold off from booking any travel until we give you the go ahead and everything is set.

What happens if my trip isn’t confirmed?

If we don’t meet the minimum number of participants for a trip, we will offer alternative dates, adventures, or a full refund. We aim to notify you 56 days before departure if the trip isn’t confirmed.

What happens if you don’t meet the minimum number of participants?

If a trip doesn’t reach its minimum required number of travellers, we may need to cancel the adventure. You’ll be offered the choice to transfer to another trip or receive a refund.

Can I book extra nights?

Yes, you can arrive early or extend your stay. We can assist with booking additional nights before or after your adventure trip.

Do you adhere to UK Government’s FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office) travel advice?

Yes, we always follow the FCDO guidelines to ensure your safety and well-being during your adventure. Many travel insurance policies will be affected by this guidance also. On the uncommon occasions that we travel through areas with FCDO travel warnings you will be notified in advance to make sure you have appropriate travel insurance.

What do I do if I am concerned about the political stability/security of the country I’m travelling to?

In cases where we don’t meet the minimum number of participants, we aim to inform you 56 days before departure. We recommend reviewing our cancellation policy here for full details. It’s also a good idea to contact your travel insurance provider to explore potential coverage for your circumstances.

Before You Travel

How do I book travel insurance?

To ensure a safe and worry-free adventure, you’ll need to secure travel insurance that covers medical costs and other potential expenses. For peace of mind, we recommend arranging insurance as soon as your trip is booked if you’d like cancellation coverage from that point forward.

For travel insurance built just for you we highly recommend our partners at battleface insurance, to obtain a quote you can head to the link here.

Do I need a visa?

Visa requirements vary by destination. We recommend checking our website for the most up-to-date information specific to your trip and consulting with your local consulate or embassy well in advance of travel.

How do I know what to pack?

We provide a detailed packing list for each trip, tailored to the specific destination and adventure you’ll be embarking on. You’ll receive this information after booking.

Do I need a sleeping bag?

It depends on the trip. For some of our adventure holidays, you will need a sleeping bag. Full details are provided in your pre-departure information.

How do I request a specific room type during our trip?

At the time of booking, we’ll send you a form to gather your details. On this form, there’s a section where you can request a specific room type. While we can’t always guarantee availability due to accommodation types, we’ll do our best to honor your request whenever possible.

Do I need cash?

Yes, we recommend carrying some local currency for tips, small purchases, or souvenirs during your adventure. ATMs may not always be available in remote areas.

Can you accommodate dietary requirements?

Yes, we strive to accommodate all dietary requirements on our adventures. At the time of booking, we’ll send you a form to gather your details including any dietary, allergies or medical requirements.

What type of suitcase/bag should I bring?

During Your Adventure

What support do we get while we’re away?

You will have support from our local team throughout your adventure, and we also set up a WhatsApp group for real-time communication with your guide, the YellowWood team and fellow travellers.

Do you employ local guides?

We are passionate about supporting local communities, and we work with experienced local guides wherever possible to ensure you have an authentic and enriching experience.

Do you provide English-speaking guides?

Yes, all of our guides are fluent in English and knowledgeable about the local culture, landscape, and history of the region.

Do I need to tip?

Tipping is discretionary but greatly appreciated. We understand everyone has different budgets, so we leave it up to you to decide how much to tip local guides and staff. A useful way to calculate a tip can be to allocate a daily tip fee to your guide(s) such as $10 or $20, and then multiply the number of days your guide was with you in order to calculate a final sum but again of course it’s completely up to you.

What happens if the weather’s bad?

Our trips are designed with adventure travel in mind, meaning we’re prepared for varied weather conditions. If the weather makes certain activities unsafe, we’ll adjust the itinerary while ensuring the adventure continues.

How do you promote sustainable travel?

We are passionate about sustainable adventure travel, aiming to support the local communities and ecosystems in the places we visit. By using local guides and services, we help contribute to the local economy and minimise our environmental footprint. Read more about our sustainability efforts here.

What happens if I get ill or injured whilst I’m travelling?

If you become ill or injured during your adventure, your safety and well-being are our top priorities. Our team and trusted local partners are available to support you on the ground, and we’ll work to ensure you receive appropriate medical attention as quickly as possible.

We recommend that all travellers have comprehensive travel insurance, including coverage for medical expenses and repatriation. This ensures you’re fully protected and can access necessary care without the worry of unexpected costs. Your insurance provider can also guide you through any claims or reimbursement processes if needed.

For further information on health and travel safety, feel free to reach out to us or consult your travel insurance provider.

Grading

To help you choose the right adventure for you, we have given each itinerary a grading that relates to the level of Walking / Trekking you will experience during the trip. This grading can be found on the Yellow map on the adventure page of the website.

Please read our Adventure Itinerary & Essential Information for more information and don't hesitate to contact us if you would like to chat through whether you have found a suitable adventure for you.

Grade 1-3: Entry Level

You need to be in good physical health to enjoy your active holiday, but you don’t need to be an experienced hiker. These itineraries offer a mix of sightseeing and easier walking for around 2-4hrs a day, with the emphasis on sights and cultural experiences.

Walks will be well marked or on defined pathways, and often around sites of interest. The expected amount of descent/ascent will depend on the landscapes of the destination, but will not exceed 400m/day, and will often be much less. Walks are at low altitude (below 3000m).

You will not be required to carry more than a day sack with water and essentials. Ensure you are aware of the weather conditions likely in the destination you are visiting and have a pair of comfortable and worn in walking shoes/boots.

Grades 4-6: Intermediate

You need to have a good level of fitness and be a regular walker for these adventures, with ideally some trekking experience. You can expect to be walking for 3-6 hours per day, not including rest stops, normally on good trail paths but with some uneven surfaces at times.

You will not be required to carry more than a day sack. You may be walking in more challenging temperatures. You will generally be walking at low altitude (below 3000m) but may walk at altitudes up to 4000m. The amount of ascent could be up to 800m in a day but will frequently be less. You may walk on consecutive days.

Ensure you are aware of the weather conditions likely in the destination you are visiting and have suitable clothing for this adventure.

Grades 7-9: Challenging

You need to have a good level of fitness with previous experience of trekking. Extra training before your trip will ensure that you get the most out of your adventure. Areas will be remote and terrain uneven.

Expect to walk for 5 – 8 hours a day, not including breaks, with some very steep ascents and descents. You will be walking at altitude (over 3000m but not higher than 5000m).

Ensure you are aware of the weather conditions likely in the destination you are visiting and have suitable equipment/clothing for this adventure (see the packing list for your adventure).

Please check individual itineraries for details of what you will need to be carrying with you.
