2 - 6
Located at 1200m, above Pecineagu Lake, with a spectacular 360 degree view over the forested slopes and peaks of the Fagaras and lezer-Papusa Mountains, Bunea Wilderness Cabin, where you spend your first night in the mountains, offers the perfect blend of comfort and immersion into pristine nature. Designed and lovingly purpose built by the Foundation Carpathia Conservation (FCC) as a rustic but comfortable wooden mountain cabin, sleeps 6 and boasts an indoor flushing toilet and running water. It offers all the opportunities of viewing wildlife that a hide will provide; large windows on all sides and an idyllic and suitably remote location chosen for its proximity to the pathways commonly used by local wildlife.
Nature is left to its own devices so guarantees as to what you will see can not be provided, however, the forest is home to the largest population of wolves, bears & lynx, as well as red and roe deer, or the newly introduced European bison. Proceeds from your booking directly support the work of the conservation charity.
Even more remote than Bunea, with the increased chances of wildlife sightings that that brings, is Comisu Wilderness Cabin, at 1600m, where you will spend your second night in the mountains. Designed and purpose built also, Comisu is slightly more rustic due to its exceptional situation in the subalpine meadows. Expect an eco-friendly wooden cabin with a rustic design; large windows for wildlife watching and photography, bunk bed accomodation and a charming rustic fireplace. The toilet is situated outside of the cabin.
Your English speaking wildlife guide is on hand as required to provide information, help identify species, and to provide delicious meals. Enjoy fully prepared, candle-lit, gourmet dinners made with local, organic ingredients and served with premium Romanian organic wines as the sun goes down behind the Carpathian peaks.
Buena and Comisu Wilderness cabins will you to relax and recharge, with no electricity or wifi to distract you from pausing and taking time to focus on nature, yourself, a good book, a stroll, or sharing stories and time with those around you.
Additional amenities at the cabins include pillows & blankets, rustic fireplaces, slippers, rain ponchos, binoculars & field guides and a telescope for star gazing! All meals are provided and included and you are accompanied by an FCC guide.
Please note that the price for this itinerary takes into account the fact that you will have already paid for a nights accommodation, group dinner and airport transfer in Bucharest as part of your main adventure. Depending on availability in the cabins, we may reverse the order of the cabin stays, and stay first in Comisu and then in Bunea, but you will always enjoy one night in each.
A Single room is available on a first come, first served basis in Rashnov, and for the final night in Bucharest. If you paid for a single supplement for your Wild Carpathian Mountain Adventure, this will already apply to your evening accommodation in Bucharest at the end of your adventure so the price stated here just represents the additional cost to secure a single room in Rashnov. If you choose a single room for this Add On adventure, but shared a twin room during the Wild Carpathian Mountain Adventure, then we will add an additional Single Supplement to your final invoice for the night in Bucharest.
This optional ‘Add on’ to your main Romanian Adventure isn't just accentuated by the accommodation, your experience is centred around it! A lovingly built rustic wooden cabin situated at 1200m in the heart of the pristine Carpathian mountain forests will be your comfortable home for 2 nights.
Whilst it is very much a case of 'Location, Location, Location', the facilities at the wilderness cabin cater to all your needs, and the warm welcome and ongoing support from your guide make this stay very special indeed.
Hygiene and cleanliness of the cabin are a given, as are the wildlife watching opportunities through the large glass windows on 3 sides of the accommodation. The communal area links the bedroom areas, which are private, but not separate from the main 'room'. Please look at the photos in the gallery for an idea of the layout. A shared bathroom has a solar powered indoor shower, a flushing toilet and running water in the sink. Heating, as required, is by log burner, and warm bedding and sheets are also provided, as well as slippers!
Please note that this extension purposefully takes you away from the 'hustle & bustle' of life and its 'technology'. The cabin does not have electricity, phone signal or wifi.
Stays at the cabin are part of the Ecotourism venture set up by the Foundation Carpathia Conservation, who we introduce you to through our Romanian Adventures. Proceeds from your stay will be directly funding the conservation of the area you are in the heart of. You will have the opportunity to discover much about the charity's work during your stay, should you be interested.
If you need an extra night in Bucharest before or after your adventure, then please select this option when you book the adventure (online booking). You will be able to book a twin/double room (for 2 people) or a single room (for 1 person).
Supporting you on your journey to Bunea Wilderness Cabin, and with you during your stay, in separate sleeping quarters, is an English speaking professional local guide. We work closely with our Romanian Tour Operator partners both before and during your adventure to ensure that they understand your needs and the standard that YellowWood Adventures expects. We believe that it is a very important positive aspect of Responsible Tourism, to employ the expertise of local suppliers, as well as offering you a much more informative and authentic experience.
As this is an optional ‘Add On’ to your main Romanian Adventure, it may be just a group of 2, or may be more, up to the maximum group number of 6.
We get clients booking alone, as couples and in small groups of friends. If you have a group of friends or family who are interested in having their own customised trip, then please let us know and we can cost it for you.
The location of Bunea Wilderness Cabin necessitates a walk of around 45 - 60 minutes, on defined paths, up through the forest. This will be walked as a guided group, at a gentle pace. To get the most of out of this extension, you need to be in good physical condition and be confident walking on uneven ground (on a path) for over an hour with regular stops.
During your first full day at the cabin, you have the option to explore the forest on foot; your guide will help find a trail route that matches your fitness levels and aspirations. There is always the option to relax at the cabin if you prefer.
Any walking is at the natural pace of the group, with regular stops.
This Bunea Wilderness Cabin adventure starts in Brasov. As your main adventure finishes in Bucharest, you will need to take the train from Bucharest to Brasov to meet your guide. We understand that travelling in another country can be daunting, so we will be able to support you with planning your adventure.
There is much joy to be found in incorporating your travel into your adventure and choosing the lower carbon footprint option of the train.
